Move Madness, Part 2

I last left you riding in a tow truck to Gallup, NM.  Let me tell you that was a three day adventure!  The first day we were there, Pep Boys couldn't look at our car until about 7:30pm.  They didn't have the part there.  They weren't sure when they would be able to get it in either.  During the course of our awful day, we had discovered a Chrysler Dealership.  Originally, we didn't think there was one there.  We had walked down to the dealership only to discover that they weren't open.

Since we couldn't get the car fixed that day, we had to stay in a hotel.  We got the last hotel room in Gallup for the night.  It was a little worrisome at first!

The next day with the help of my dad we were able to get the part ordered.  They didn't have the part locally so they had to order it from Denver.  We were guaranteed that it would be there in two days by 2pm.  That meant two more nights hold up in a hotel room.  John wouldn't let Jay and I out of the hotel for the few days were their.  He walked everywhere to get us food and milk for Jay.  So, we watched movies, went swimming and walked every floor of the hotel.  All the staff knew us by the time we left.

Below are a few pics I snapped with my phone.  I don't know why but I never took my camera out the whole time!

Move Madness, Part 1

I know it has been a couple of months since I posted.  I promise I didn't abandon my faithful readers.  However, it was a much needed break for all the move craziness that was going on.

I'm going to borrow a little inspiration from our friends the Kinnucan's and do a couple massive posts to get everyone caught up.

We had to have the craziest trip ever!  I had to work on Monday and Tuesday before we left.  We were suppose to take off Tuesday night to drive to Albuquerque, New Mexico.  It was a mere 6hrs from Phoenix.  This is not where our plan started going haywire.

The first problem we encountered was while we were still in Phoenix.  Our car had been acting weird.  When I was in California earlier in the month, my dad's mechanic had fixed an O2 censor that went out.  After that everything seemed to be fine.  Then a couple days before the move it was acting up again.  We took it to three different places before someone was finally able to tell us that the computer system was failing.  This was causing the car to basically loose its mind.  So Monday, before we left we took it to have it fixed.  So $600 later we were ready to go.

Tuesday, I left work a little later than I expected to leave, getting us on the road late.  This wasn't a huge deal, we just knew we would be able to make it as far as we wanted to her.  We stopped in Flagstaff for the night.  I had to call about 10 different hotels before I found one that was available.  I don't know what was going on there but it had all the hotels booked solid.

After sleeping in a little, getting up we head out on the open road with great excitement.  Around lunch time we pull off of an exit to fill up the gas tank, have a much needed restroom break and grab some lunch.  After doing all of this, we get back on the road.  No more than 4 or 5 miles up the road my husband decides he needs to use someones facilities again.  Little did we know this would be the beginning of our little problematic journey.

We pulled of the road about 30 minutes west of Gallup, New Mexico.  We hadn't even crossed the state line, yet.  The only place of business at this exit was a shop that sold Native American items; jewelry, blankets, masks, etc.  Jaylyn and I decide to wait in the car while he runs inside to go to the bathroom.  As we are sitting in the car, it starts to smoke.  I start freaking out!  I pull Jay out of the car.  Now, by this time people are coming out of the shop and staring at the car and looking at me and back at the car and then jumping in their cars and driving away.  So of course, by this time I don't know what to do.  In my head, I'm cussing at the car, at my husband, at the people staring and I just want to not be on the trip anymore!

I decide I need my husband's help and he is taking way to look in the bathroom!  I went inside flung the bathroom door open, yelled into the bathroom, John the car is smoking and green stuff is dumping out of the bottom, close the door, take my child and walk back outside.  Don't worry you read correctly, I went into the bathroom!  Desperate times, call for desperate measures.

While, what felt like an hour later but was just a couple of minutes, my husband decides to show up and help me deal with the situation at hand.  The first thing, figure out where the hell we are!  Then we called, USAA (our version of AAA).  They sent a tow truck to pick us up.  The closest place, Good Old Gallup!  Let me tell you if I ever go there again it will be too soon.

As luck would have it, we got the nicest tow truck guy.  He was in the Navy when he was younger.  He followed his wife to Gallup, when they got a divorce he stayed so he could be with his kids.  Yes, we got his whole life story.  :)  What else are you going to talk about for 45mins in a tow truck.

This was my view on the ride:

Stay tuned for Part 2!  Gallup was a trip!
