Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

I love everything about Dr. Seuss.  The colorfulness of his books, the goofy rhymes, the lessons to be learned, the encouragement of his words.  Now, one may think that this love came from my parents reading Dr. Seuss to me as a child.  Not so, my mother hated Dr. Seuss and never bought us any of his books at all.  I actually fell in love with Dr. Seuss in high school after a friend showed by her copy of My Many Colored Days.  It was actually the first Dr. Seuss book I ever read.  I decided then and there that I would start collecting all of Dr. Seuss's magical books.  Well, here I am over ten years later and I still only have two.  Sad I know.  One of the items on my life list (more to come on that later) is to collect every Dr. Seuss book.  I guess I need to get started.

On Friday, Dr. Seuss had a birthday.  So, I decided that Jalyn and I would celebrate the day.  I downloaded some coloring pages from the Seussville website.  It is a really great website with a lot of activities for children, parents and teachers.  She selected a few different pages to color but her favorite was the Zebra.  Go figure an animal was her favorite. She was so proud of it.  I thought she did an amazing job!

After we colored we made Dr. Seuss hats that I found on Pinterest (one of my favorite sites).  They are so easy to make and only require three items.  She enjoyed helping me make them but didn't want to have anything to do with eating them.  But, she did eat the oreos all my themselves.

After we made our little treats we watch some of the PBS show Cat in the Hat.  She loves that show and the songs.  She sings along with all of them.

And finally we ended the evening with reading Oh, the Places You'll Go.  It was a good day!

Thanks for reading.

  1. Something I am going to do for Oliver and Ella....(I saw this with a student at my school). Each school year have the teacher write a note and sign Oh The Places You'll Go. Then at HS graduation, give the kiddo the book. They will have notes from all their teachers! I think I am going to start next year for Oliver when he is in Pre-K!
