Finding Sunshine: Mad Hatter and Lincoln Memorial

Last weekend, We made our first venture into the City by ourselves. We are becoming real pros at this Metro thing. This time we changed lines and went to two completely different areas in the City. It is nice to just jump on the Metro and not have to worry about driving and parking the car and all the chaos that goes along with that.

So are first stop was the Mad Hatter. I had read an article in a magazine about the top 10 places to get hot dogs in DC. The article was right it was an awesome hot dog and huge!

After having lunch we headed towards the National Mall. As we were walking toward the Lincoln Memorial, Jaylyn got mesmerized by the birds. She kept saying woo birds over and over again. We would slowly walk up to them and someone on the other side would scare them and they would take off. She got all excited and said birds, birds. When the birds finally flew away for the last time she started crying and screaming birds again. It was funny and sad all at the same time. She was really upset by them leaving.

Then went on a little trek down to the Lincoln Memorial. John and I hadn't seen it since we were little kids, so we were looking forward to it. You always see pictures of it and read how large it is but until you are standing next to it you really don't have any understanding of the massiveness of the Memorial. Underneath the Memorial, is a little museum that talks about the different rallies that have taken place there. That was really interesting to read about also.

Since we were there so late, we just decided to stay and watch the sun set. It was really beautiful and a great ending to the perfect day.
